Getting Started with Telehealth through Simple Practice
Telehealth sessions are available to all clients residing in NY and PA.
To get started, you will need the following equipment.
• Internet connection.
• Device with a camera and speaker. This can be a:
1. Desktop computer with a webcam and speakers
2. Laptop computer with built-in webcam and speakers
3. Tablet device with built-in webcam and speakers
4. Smartphone
Note: To use a smartphone or tablet, you must first
download Telehealth by SimplePractice—available for iOS
or Android in the app store.
Connecting through a desktop or laptop:
Approximately 10 minutes before your appointment, you should receive either an email or SMS text appointment reminder.
Click the unique link embedded in the reminder. Your video call screen will now open in your web browser. When the browser tab opens, you may be prompted to allow your camera to turn on.
You will enter a virtual waiting room where you will see a video of yourself until you are admitted into the counseling session. While waiting, you will see a welcome prompt and settings for your microphone and camera.
Connecting through a desktop or laptop:
For your first telehealth session, download Telehealth by SimplePractice (for iOS or Android) in the app store.

Open the reminder on your device and click the unique link. This will open the Telehealth by SimplePractice app.

If possible, join your session using a desktop or laptop.
On your mobile phone:
1. Open YouTube and search for white noise or meditation sounds. Or, if you have an iPhone, you can access these sounds by opening settings > accessibility > audio/visual > background sounds. Enable background sounds. You can select a specific sound.
2. While your phone plays white noise or other sounds, place it near the door of the room you are in or next to the wall of a neighboring room. The sound from your phone will muffle your voice and make it difficult for others to know what you say in the session.
